England

Eccentric, extraordinary and compact, each region has its own unique character. Our green and pleasant land offers a journey through time from the ancient megaliths of Stonehenge to the space age domes of the Eden Project in Cornwall. The revitalised industrial cities of Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle offer a modern vibe yet revel in their heritage. The bracing moors and dales of Yorkshire, the birthplace of Shakespeare – Stratford upon Avon, picture postcard Cotswold villages, the undulating hills and dreaming spires of Oxfordshire, to Kent, the Garden of England – our Island will enthral all those who visit.

The Cotswolds:

When most people think of the English countryside, they picture the Cotswolds; yellow-stone villages straight from a chocolate box cover and manors perched on rolling, green hills. Defined by its rolling hills, or ‘wolds’, this glorious region runs through five counties covering some 2,070 sq kms and offers a host of activities and attractions, in all seasons too!

Explore quintessentially English villages of honey-coloured stone; take in lively market towns; visit some of the country’s greatest palaces, castles, country houses and gardens; admire the natural world in areas of outstanding beauty; walk or cycle through breath-taking landscapes along historic trails; or make a splash in a lake-land area with its own inland beach.

Unsurprisingly this landscape provides a rich harvest of food and drink with plentiful local produce featuring on the menus of the gastro pubs, old inns, colourful cafes and fine dining restaurants scattered generously across the region.

History comes to life in ancient Canterbury where the Romans built walls, Chaucer wrote medieval tales and Marlowe penned Elizabethan plays. Or follow pilgrim steps through silent cloisters at the towering Canterbury cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lace up walking shoes for coastal paths through the county towards those iconic White Cliffs steeped in World War II memories.
